The course aims at giving advanced knowledge of the approaches, principles, and methodologies within the domain of Psychobiology and Neuropsychology

  • Understanding pros and cons of any of the techniques presented during the course  
  • Understanding the basic principles of the neuropsychological approach

  • The scientific method
  • The principles of the techniques in Psychobiology (e.g., Convergence & complementarity, Direct & indirect methods, Morphology & functionality, Spatial & temporal resolution)
  • Overview of some key techniques (e.g., Behavior, Immersive virtual reality, Single-unit recording, Electroencephalography, Event-related potentials, Magnetoencephalography, Direct cortical intraoperative stimulation)
  • Introduction to neuropsychology: historical perspective and anatomo-clinical correlation
  • Neuropsychological deficit of space representation: Neglect
  • Neuropsychological deficit of motor awareness: Anosognosia for hemiplegia; Anarchic Hand
  • Neuropsychological deficit of body representation: Somatoparaphrenia, Pathological Embodiment

Learning assessment methods

  • The exam will be administered in a written form in presence through the Moodle platform, and it will last 35 minutes
  • It will be made of 31 multiple-choice questions with four alternatives and only one correct response
  • Each correct answer will count as one point, whereas each wrong answer/no answer will count as zero. The cut-off to pass the exam is 18 correct answers
